I've just got back from a long weekend in Edinburgh. Just a break, few days away with Mrs Mick, never spent more than an afternoon there before and can do it dirt cheap on the train - unremarkable stuff, and not in itself worthy of a post on Wookies, let alone a topic.

So, we arrive on Thursday afternoon, dump the bags in the Travelodge (there's another thread there if I get around to emailing them) and wander into town. First stop, pub. I am standing at the bar waiting to be served when, out of the blue (!) a cockney accent announces, "Yay, Manchester City! What's it like to have all that money?" It took me a moment to click - I was wearing a City shirt, as I tend to when I'm slobbing around, and he was talking to me. "You jammy bastards - nice one! I hope you do it all over United!"

This set the tone for the weekend. I was stopped twice on the way back to the hotel. "Give us a couple of million mate, now you're minted!!" Everywhere I went, people (English and Scottish) wanted to talk to me about City - and to a man they were delighted for us. I was stopped by a guide in the Queen's Art Gallery at Holyrood Palace (I'm dead refined, me) complete with tartan waistcoat and trews to tell me how much he enjoyed us beating the scum twice last season and wishing us luck. I was already beginning to feel like visiting royalty, so to get recognition in the Queen's own gaff by what I like to think of as her personal representative just put the icing on the cake.

However the best was yet to come. I was standing outside a pub at the end of Princes St, while Mrs Mick examined the menu and considered whether she fancied it for tea. A group of about a dozen blokes fell out of the pub. By their accents, and some of their comments, I think they were from Carlisle. I was spotted, and they all came up to shake my hand. Two of them even insisted on having their photograph taken with me! Wtf?! I did explain I was just a fan, not an actual player. but they didn't seem to care.

Love it! Seems like the wider world is pleased for us in our good fortune.
